Inside the archive

The Bob Dylan Center is the principal public window into an archive of more than 100,000 items spanning seven decades — manuscripts, notebooks, correspondence, photographs, films, instruments and recordings. Galleries show a changing selection; the full archive is available to approved researchers by appointment.

Why Tulsa

Dylan beside Guthrie

Dylan placed his archive near the Woody Guthrie collection, honouring a formative influence. The two centres are partners in American Song Archives but remain separate neighbours: Dylan at 116 E Reconciliation Way and Guthrie at 102 E Reconciliation Way.

About 2,695 m² of creative process

Olson Kundig designed the Center, with exhibition and media work by 59 Productions and interactive audio by Art Processors. Its façade mural is based on Jerry Schatzberg’s 1965 portrait of Dylan.

Greenville grew through its textile mills, then re-centred downtown on the Reedy River. A four-lane road once obscured the falls; the 2004 transformation into Falls Park and the curved Liberty Bridge returned the water to the heart of the city.
